What is Vodka?

A clear, colorless alcoholic beverage made primarily from corn, wheat, rye or potatoes. Vodka is a very popular liquor for making cocktails. Historically the preferred vodka is made from potatoes.

While vodka is less used for cooking there is one dish that is pretty well known which is Pasta In Tomato Vodka Sauce which is Italian dish that combines cream and vodka to make a sauce for pasta.

• Bloody Mary - a favorite for brunch
• Screwdriver - a simple drink made with vodka and orange juice
• Cosmopolitan - this drink uses vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice and Cointreau
• Seabreeze - another old line drink with vodka and cranberry juice and grapefruit juice.

Substitute for Vodka

Non-Alcohol Substitutions:
For 2 tablespoons of vodka you can substitute 2 tablespoons of water; apple cider or white grape juice mixed with lime juice.

Other Alcohol Variations:
Substitute 2 tablespoons of aquavit, tequilla or white rum.

Purus Vodka

Purus [pure-US] vodka is a specialty, organic wheat 80-proof vodka produced by Anheuser-Busch in Italy's Piemonte region. The vodka is being distilled by Distilleria Sacchetto a family owned an operated company.  It has gained in popularity and has a large following in the U.S. I'm not sure it's because of the unusual and attractive bottle or just that it's a great tasting vodka; significantly different from your average product.
